Douglas Flora: Don’t Let AI Make You Irrelevant – Start Preparing Today

Douglas Flora, President-Elect Association of Cancer Care Centers, shared on LinkedIn:

Don’t Let AI Make You Irrelevant – Start Preparing Today.
There’s a growing fear out there – and it’s real.
Fear that AI will replace our jobs.
Fear that no matter how hard we’ve worked, technology might move faster.

But here’s the truth: AI won’t replace you. Not preparing for it might.

Knowledge used to double every 100 years. Today, it doubles every 12 hours.

And 85% of the jobs that will exist in 2030 haven’t even been invented yet. (Source: Dell Technologies and Institute for the Future)

The future belongs to those willing to evolve.

And that evolution starts with a simple but powerful commitment:

Schedule your growth like you would a patient visit, a leadership meeting, or a workout.

For over 30 years, I’ve kept a steady habit – studying, taking notes, staying intentionally curious every week.

And today, I believe it’s one of the most important habits we can pass on to the teams we lead.

One of my favorite voices on this is Sol Rashidi, whose TEDx talk ‘How to Avoid Becoming Irrelevant’ should be required watching for every professional navigating AI and rapid change.

Just 12 minutes – and every one of them matters: Watch it here.

Sol lays out a roadmap we can all use:

  • Say yes — Dive into new skills and ideas.
  • Get bored — Step away from the noise. Let your mind stretch.
  • Be a student — Stay relentlessly open to learning.
  • Use TECH, don’t let it use you — Make innovation your advantage.
  • Prioritize connections — In a world of tech, human relationships still lead.
‘Don’t numb the present — activate the future.’

If you’re feeling anxious about AI, don’t freeze. Move. Learn. Lead. Because the future of healthcare – and of every profession – will be shaped by those who start building today.

What’s one skill, mindset, or capability you’re investing in right now?

Let’s share and grow together.”
