Nirmala Bhoo Pathy: Privileged to be part of a key stakeholder engagement by Bank Negara Malaysia
Nirmala Bhoo Pathy, Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at University Malaya, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“It was a privilege to be part of a key stakeholder engagement initiated by Bank Negara Malaysia at their premises to discuss the way forward for medical and health insurance/takaful reforms. With the recent public outcry over rising premiums, this is an issue of national importance, directly impacting affordability and access to healthcare.
Having previously gone on air at BFM Business to discuss this issue, it’s great to now be part of the conversation to shape real solutions.
Encouragingly, BNM is taking a far-thinking approach, focusing on broader reforms such as cost transparency, strategic purchasing, and digitalisation to create a more sustainable healthcare ecosystem. The measures outlined are a solid start, but the challenge lies in turning them into actionable policies.
This requires commitment from all stakeholders including regulators, insurers, healthcare providers, policymakers, and the public.
For changes will never happen in silo!”
