Nicole Cifra: Residency in a nutshell
Shikha Jain and Angela Christine Weyand (Shematologist) shared a post by Nicole Cifra on X/Twitter:
“Residency in a nutshell: a co-resident going to the ED mid-shift for what turns out to be a kidney stone, then the next week getting messaging from program leadership about residents’ responsibility to remain hydrated. Can’t make this stuff up!
Something made me think of this recently and the victim blaming will always take my breath away.”
Quoting Shematologist’s post:
”Or the time my 34 week pregnant co-resident went into labor and began to bleed from placenta previa only to be instructed by one of the chief residents to stay at her ER shift until a replacement arrived.”
Quoting Shikha Jain’s post:
”Or when I was admitted to the hospital midway through the workday after passing out at work for severe dehydration at 30+ weeks pregnant and my clinic attending contacted my PD to ensure that one day of my “leave” after I delivered was docked for missing her afternoon clinic.
Oh oh or when I was working until the day I was supposed to be induced with such significant swelling an attending told me if I was her patient she would have sent me home to rest. Too bad I was on call.”
