Olubukola Ayodele: London Global Cancer Week 2025 – A Platform for Equity in Cancer Care

Olubukola Ayodele, Breast Cancer Lead at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, shared on LinkedIn:

“London Global Cancer Week 2025 is just around the corner, taking place from 24th to 28th November.

For many of us in oncology and cancer advocacy, this week is more than a conference. It’s a global platform where clinicians, researchers, policymakers, patient advocates, and community leaders gather with a shared purpose: to strengthen the fight against cancer everywhere, not just in well-resourced settings.

London Global Cancer Week reminds us that cancer is a global challenge with local realities. While advances in treatment and research are accelerating, significant inequities persist in who has access to early diagnosis, optimal therapies, and supportive care. The conversations and collaborations that happen during this week have the power to influence policy, spark innovation, and bring attention to voices that are often unheard.

A few important highlights:

The Vanessa Moss Prize: Abstract submissions close on 15th September. This is an opportunity to share your research or project on equitable access to cancer care worldwide. Submission link.

Cancer Health Disparities Day: From Awareness to Action, taking place in person on Friday, 28th November at Conway Hall, London.

This day is dedicated to one of the most urgent issues in oncology: inequity. Too often, outcomes are determined not by biology alone, but by where someone lives, their ethnicity, gender, income, or access to healthcare. “From Awareness to Action” is not just a theme, it’s a call to move beyond recognising disparities to driving change.

The event will feature speakers and panelists from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about challenging the status quo. Expect discussions that are bold, solutions-driven, and grounded in lived experiences. The aim is not only to highlight the gaps but to co-create pathways that make equitable cancer care a reality in the UK and globally.

If you believe that the fight against cancer must be a fight for fairness, then London Global Cancer Week and particularly Cancer Health Disparities Day is where you need to be.

Save the date and let’s turn awareness into action!”
