Carmen Uscatu was appointed to the SIOP WLPO Network Steering Group
Carmen Uscatu was recently appointed as a Steering Group Member at SIOP Women Leaders in Paediatric Oncology (WLPO) Network.
Carmen Uscatu is the Founder and President of Dăruiește Viață (Give Life), a Romanian NGO focused on transforming the country’s healthcare system.
With a background in Cybernetics and Economic Forecasting from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, she brings a mix of statistical and technical expertise to her mission of improving healthcare outcomes.
She participated in the Association of European Cancer Leagues’ Master’s course, “European Scholars Advocacy Course: Advocacy in Action – Interacting with decision-makers to keep cancer high on the policy agenda,” which deepened her advocacy skills and strengthened her resolve to influence cancer care policies at the systemic level.
Through Dăruiește Viață, Uscatu has raised €74 million over the past decade, securing support from over 500,000 individual donors.
She has also pioneered Romania’s first online fundraising platform, enabling both corporate and individual donations to drive the organization’s efforts.
Currently, Uscatu is leading a project to build a state-of-the-art hospital for children with cancer in Bucharest.
The hospital will offer advanced treatments, compassionate care, and support for families, becoming a symbol of hope.
To further her goal of improving healthcare in Romania, Uscatu is enrolled in the St. Jude Graduate School’s Master of Global Child Health program.
She is focused on gaining the knowledge and tools to help hospital teams, enhance healthcare practices, and use data to inform policy changes.
Uscatu is driven by a deep desire to reduce the gap in survival rates between Romania and Western Europe for childhood cancers and other serious illnesses in the next decade.
