Gustavo Viani: Breaking Barriers in Global Oncology

Gustavo Viani, Professor of Radiation Oncology at Ribeirão Preto Medical School, University of Sao Paulo, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Breaking Barriers in Global Oncology.

We proudly introduce the Linear Accelerator Shortage Index (LSI)—a groundbreaking tool designed to bring hope and healing to regions where radiotherapy is most needed.

Methods

-Cross-sectional, population-based approach, we developed the Linear Accelerator Shortage Index (LSI) to analyze global radiotherapy access.
-This tool combines population data, cancer incidence, and existing capacity to identify regions most in need and provide personalized recommendations for LINAC allocation.

Why This Study Matters?

  • Fighting Inequality: Pinpoints the hardest-hit regions, particularly underserved low- and middle-income countries.
  •  Personalised Solutions: Offers actionable, data-driven recommendations for policymakers.
  • Saving Lives: Expanding radiotherapy access could save millions—patients, families, and futures.”

Global linear accelerator requirements and personalised country recommendations: a cross-sectional, population-based study.
