Arif Kamal: Reaching out can make all the difference for loved ones with cancer

Arif Kamal, Chief Patient Officer for the American Cancer Society, shared a post by Richard Averitte on LinkedIn, adding the following:

“Even a simple message like, ‘I’m thinking of you,’ can really matter.

I had the chance to talk to Yuki Noguchi about a topic that’s very important to me. Rallying around loved ones with cancer has no expiration date — and the holidays can be especially hard and lonely.

If you’ve been thinking about someone you know with cancer or a chronic illness, reaching out with just a few words of support can make all the difference.”

Quoting Richard Averitte:

“A great segment on NPR this morning about ‘cancer ghosting,’ a devastating form of social isolation and loss of support that is often unrecognized. Our Chief Patient Officer, Arif Kamal MD, MBA, was featured on the segment and noted that support can come from simple messages. One of the ways the American Cancer Society addresses ‘cancer ghosting’ is through the ACS CARES™ app, the only app that equips those facing cancer with curated content, programs, and services. A tremendous resource for those on the cancer journey.”
