Lacy Hubbard: Progress in Women’s Cancer Screening in Rwanda
Lacy Hubbard, President of the Elekta Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Progress in Women’s Cancer Screening in Rwanda.
The last time I visited the Rubavu district in July was to discuss and plan our screening program. This time, I got to see those plans in action. Meeting the Vice Mayor, the DG of the district hospitals in both Rubavu and Nyabihu and visiting local health centers reminded me of the incredible commitment from local leaders and collaboration that are driving this initiative forward.
Our goal is to screen 77,000 women for both cervical and breast cancer in these two districts. In just 7 weeks, we’ve already screened 27,000 women, identifying 6 cases of cervical cancer and 13 cases of breast cancer. These numbers highlight the critical need for early detection and timely care.
I absolutely loved working with our project team and partners, such as RBC (Rwanda Biomedical Center) and Society for Family Health Rwanda, on the ground. It truly feels like family, and their dedication inspires me every time. I’m so grateful for their hard work and the trust of our partners. Seeing the progress firsthand fills me with hope and positivity.
Together, we are making a difference.”
