Erika Hamilton – Candidate for ASCO Nominating Committee
Erika Hamilton has been nominated as the Undesignated Member Candidate of the nomination committee for ASCO.
The ASCO Nominating Committee has selected 13 distinguished members as candidates for leadership positions within the Society.
ASCO encourages all eligible members to vote for the new leaders of the Society.
Eligible members include those holding a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathy, Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Medical Science, Doctor of Nursing Science, Doctor of Nursing Practice, or an equivalent doctoral-level degree recognized by the Society and the Association, and who are in good standing as of October 14, 2024. Voting in the ASCO Election will earn eligible members a FASCO point.
The voting period ends on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. All ballots, whether submitted online or by paper, must be received by this deadline.

Dr. Erika Hamilton, MD, is a leading medical oncologist who specialises in the treatment of breast cancer.
Since joining the Sarah Cannon Research Institute in Nashville, TN, in 2013, Dr. Hamilton has played a pivotal role in the discovery and advancement of innovative cancer treatments.
Currently, Dr. Erika Hamilton, serves as the Chair of the Breast Executive Committee and Director of the Breast Cancer Research Program at the Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), positions she has held since 2015.
In these roles, she oversees innovative breast cancer research, driving advancements in treatment and patient care.
Recently, she joined SCRI Oncology Partners as an Oncology Partner in November 2023, further cementing her leadership in oncology research and clinical practice.
Dr. Hamilton has been named as one of the 100 Influential Women in Oncology and in the Top 100 Xfluencers in Breast Cancer by OncoDaily.
Dr. Hamilton’s current responsibilities involve the direction of the breast cancer program, ensuring that new scientific findings are rapidly incorporated into clinical trials.
She focuses on therapies for HER2-positive, triple-negative, and hormone receptor-positive breast cancers, all of which require highly specialized treatment approaches.
Before her role at the Sarah Cannon Research Institute, she was affiliated with Duke University, gaining early faculty experience. Recently, in November 2023, she was appointed as an oncology partner with SCRI Oncology Partners in Nashville, TN.
Dr. Hamilton’s expertise has earned her leadership roles in several high-profile oncology research organizations. She has held influential roles such as Scientific Co-Chair for the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Breast Meeting (2023-2025) and serves on the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Research Committee. She also led ASCO’s Digital Education Content Planning Group (2022-2023), ensuring the creation of accessible and high-quality educational resources in oncology.
She has been a volunteer with Gilda’s Club in Nashville since 2014, providing support and resources to individuals affected by cancer.
She also participates in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and serves as a board member for the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Central Tennessee. Additionally, Dr. Hamilton volunteers at the Hope Lodge and Room in the Inn through Brentwood Baptist Church, emphasizing her dedication to supporting cancer patients and their families.
Education
Dr. Erika Hamilton earned her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA, graduating magna cum laude in 2003.
She then pursued a medical degree (M.D.) at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she cultivated her interest in oncology from 2003 to 2007.
Her early medical training included an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina (2007-2009).
Dr. Hamilton completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Duke University from 2009 to 2013.
