Ghassan Abou-Alfa: Our long efforts for a study for PLWH diagnosed with HCC in Africa is one step closer
Ghassan Abou-Alfa, Medical Oncologist, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, shared a post on X:
“Thank you National Cancer Institute for the invite.
Delighted to see our long efforts for a study for PLWH diagnosed with HCC in Africa is one step closer!”
The 19th International Conference on Malignancies in HIV/AIDS (ICMH) took place at the Natcher Conference Center on the NIH campus on October 24-25, 2024.
Organized by the Office of HIV and AIDS Malignancy at the National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health, this event aimed to promote the exchange of information among laboratory and clinical researchers.
Recent advancements in viral oncology, immunology, genetics, epidemiology, pathogenesis, early diagnosis, and clinical research were highlighted, with the goal of accelerating the translation of basic scientific discoveries into clinical applications.
A notable feature of the conference was the Junior Investigator Research In Progress Session.
This session featured seven-minute oral presentations followed by three minutes for questions, showcasing selected abstracts from junior investigators—those currently in a fellowship or who had completed any type of training within the past five years.
This initiative allowed junior investigators to receive valuable feedback on their presentations from senior researchers and to share their work with a broader audience. Selected presenters were required to submit their presentations for review by a Program Committee member a week before the meeting.
Abstracts that were not chosen for oral presentations were displayed as posters, with submitters given the option to indicate their interest in the Junior Investigator In Progress Session during the abstract submission process.
