Sarah Louden: Cancer doesn’t just touch the person diagnosed

“Gilead Oncology
Tears. Gratitude. Deep inspiration.
My son Joseph has a friend whose mom is living with metastatic NSCLC. He wants to re-read The Adventure Jar and then read it with his friend. His friend won’t even say the word ‘cancer’ out loud, he whispers it. He’s only 9.
I can’t begin to imagine the emotional weight this family carries each day, but what I do know is that we have the power to show up for them—to support them in ways that matter.
Cancer doesn’t just touch the person diagnosed—it ripples through their family, and it can hit children the hardest. The Adventure Jar, created by Gilead in partnership with the metastatic breast cancer community, shares the story of a family navigating the overwhelming toll of a cancer diagnosis, all while discovering the beauty and magic in the precious moments they still share together.
