Texas Society of Clinical Oncology (TxSCO) annual meeting 2024 took place in San Antonio, from September 20-21. This event typically brings together healthcare professionals, including oncologists, researchers, and support staff, to share knowledge and collaborate.

I had a great chance to poster present on the case of a DLBCL with rare manifestation, thanks to my attending Dr. Suarez and Dr. Farray as well as my husband who helped me with literature search. It was nice to attend this local hem/oncology conference as a candidate for Hem/Onc. All the panel talks were informative and helpful, especially the immersion of AI in Oncology and the health disparity of cancer care! Even more than that, though, I have to mention how extraordinary…and extraordinarily inspiring… American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)’s President Dr. Robin Zon and Texas Oncology’s / Community Oncology Alliance’s Dr. Debra Patt are in their unrelenting efforts and passions, across so many different elements of oncology care today. I got to learn them well this weekend, and the only way I can describe it is… how fortunate and catalytic it is when you meet someone who has done what you know would take three lifetimes for you to ever do–but to do it, too, with grace. With purpose. With simply, ‘righteousness’. Bc it’s ‘the right thing to do’. I’m telling you, yall… we can always do more. We should, do more. When it comes to the emperor of all maladies that threatens any human existence, we are in this together. And every life, today and tomorrow, matters. Matters now*, with urgency.

That’s what I took away from these two, and many others this weekend. The best leaders, happen organically. They don’t become leaders out of pursuit, but because of their independent and autonomous actions. I feel more inspired, encouraged…and proud–of the hands we’re in as it comes to combating cancer. All for one, and one for all!”

“A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended the TxSCO Annual Conference! We reached a record number of participants this year, and everyone truly made the event memorable.

This conference wasn’t just about clinical updates; we explored a wide array of important topics. We had compelling discussions on cancer health disparities led by Venus Gines, cutting-edge insights into breast cancer treatments from Debra Patt, important updates on HER2 pan tumor indications presented by Travis Sims. Dr. Robin Zon began Saturday with updates on the state of oncology from ASCO

Dr. The session on AI in oncology by Sanjay Juneja, M.D. opened our eyes to future possibilities, while the panel discussion on policy and legislative updates, moderated by Ray Page, was invaluable for understanding the current landscape. We also addressed the crucial issue of clinician burnout with Ajit Bisen and examined cybersecurity measures with Shawn Tuma highlighting the need for vigilance in the practices.
