Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center shared on LinkedIn:
“Does having larger breasts increase your risk of breast cancer? According to Sylvester expert Dr. Estelamari Rodriguez, breast size itself is not a known risk factor.
‘There is no established relationship between having larger or smaller breasts and the likelihood of developing breast cancer,’
Dr. Rodriguez told Everyday Health.
While breast size is largely influenced by the amount of fatty tissue, breast cancer risk is associated with factors including age, genetics, hormonal exposures, family history and breast density.
Dr. Rodriguez also emphasizes an important distinction: breast size and breast density are not the same. Dense breasts contain a higher proportion of glandular tissue relative to fatty tissue and are associated with increased breast cancer risk.
Understanding your individual risk factors and staying up to date with recommended screenings can help you make informed decisions about your breast health.”
