“A new report from Lung Cancer Policy Network looks at what European countries are learning as lung cancer screening moves from pilots towards wider implementation.
One of the clearest messages is that finding lung cancer earlier is only the first step.
Screening programmes also need:
- Clear follow-up and agreed pathways
- Enough diagnostic capacity and skilled teams
- Timely access to specialist care
- Health systems that are ready to act on what screening finds
These are closely aligned with Lung Cancer Europe’s own priorities.
We are calling for timely and equitable access to evidence-based screening and early detection, accurate and timely diagnosis, specialist multidisciplinary care and less inequality in access across Europe.
Lung Cancer Europe is a member of the Lung Cancer Policy Network, and we welcome this practical focus on what it takes to deliver screening well, not simply introduce it.
