European School of Oncology shared on LinkedIn:
“October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
At the European School of Oncology (ESO), we support the professionals who care for people with breast cancer through a range of educational activities. From postgraduate study to practical surgical training, our programmes help clinicians deepen their expertise, exchange perspectives and connect scientific advances with everyday decisions.
This commitment is deeply rooted in our history. For more than four decades, ESO was led by Dr Alberto Costa, a breast cancer surgeon. His work has helped connect specialist education with multidisciplinary care and the perspectives of people living with breast cancer.
Here’s how we carry that commitment forward through our educational programmes.
Our Certificate of Competence in Breast Cancer, offers a structured opportunity to deepen both clinical and scientific knowledge.
Our Refresher Courses provide space to examine those changes, discuss clinical cases and consider how medical oncology, surgery and radiotherapy can work together.
The next Refresher Course on Breast Cancer will take place in Malta on 10-12 February 2027 – Applications close on 22 November 2026.
Our Basics in Breast Cancer Surgery course combines theoretical learning with intensive practical sessions, allowing participants to perform procedures on customised simulators with guidance from experienced faculty.
The course at Imperial College London trained 27 professionals, with an average age of 32. Participants’ specialities included surgery, gynaecology and plastic surgery.
Breast cancer is a regular focus of our Multidisciplinary Masterclass in Oncology. Expert-led presentations, multidisciplinary discussions and interactive clinical case reviews bring professionals from different specialties together to explore treatment developments and the challenges of managing the disease at different stages.
Through ESO’s Clinical Training Centres Doctors Fellowship Programme, early-career oncology specialists can spend three to six months at a European Centre of Excellence.”
