Do Clinicians and Patients See the Same Picture? – Contrasting CROs vs PROs in Recent ESMO Breast 2025 Studies
ESMO shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Do clinicians and patients see the same picture?
Studies presented at ESMO Breast 2025 show gaps between clinician-reported outcomes (CROs) and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in adjuvant Breast Cancer therapy trials.
Correlations between physician grading and patient scores were weak.
Concordance was low for most symptoms, with highest agreement for nausea, pain, and diarrhoea, and almost none for dyspnoea and insomnia. This disparity shows that traditional clinical tools capture only part of the Patient Experience.
Inclusion of PROs is critical to ensure that clinical trials fully reflect treatment-related symptoms and deliver truly patient-centred care.”
