City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) shared on LinkedIn:
“Indonesia now has a ten-year roadmap for breast cancer. The next step is making it work where patients receive care.
Breast cancer is the country’s most commonly diagnosed cancer, with 93,236 new cases, and its second leading cause of cancer death, with 38,012 deaths (GLOBOCAN).
In Jakarta, Dharmais Cancer Hospital, Indonesia’s National Cancer Center, and C/Can have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to turn the Breast Cancer National Action Plan 2025–2034 into a Breast Cancer Action Plan for the city’s health system. Dharmais leads the work locally, with C/Can supporting delivery, the backing of the Ministry of Health and the support of Roche Indonesia.
Jakarta is the second Indonesian city to take this path through C/Can Horizon, after Yogyakarta set the first blueprint in 2025. Over the next six months, the city will:
- map its breast cancer ecosystem
- set up a City Executive Committee and a multisectoral Breast Cancer Working Group
- assess diagnostic quality, workforce, infrastructure and referral pathways
- bring 40 to 70 health professionals and stakeholders together to draft the plan
- turn endorsed priorities into four to five project concept notes
‘What we learn here will strengthen the blueprint for every Indonesian city that follows.’
Chika Kitajima, Regional Director for Asia, C/Can.
This is how a national plan becomes care that reaches patients, city by city.”
