Yogyakarta is the First City in Indonesia to Develop a City-level Breast Cancer Action Plan – C/Can

City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“As a C/Can Horizon city, Yogyakarta is the first city in Indonesia to develop a city-level breast cancer action plan, bringing together the Yogyakarta Special Region Provincial Health Office, Dr Sardjito Central General Hospital, Universitas Gadjah Mada’s Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing, and the Health Offices of Yogyakarta City and Sleman District to design a concrete response to gaps in detection, diagnosis, and treatment.

Nearly 100 participants took part in a three-day workshop in May, working through the evidence and agreeing on the interventions they will each be responsible for delivering.

The plan is built on the three pillars of WHO’s Global Breast Cancer Initiative (GBCI) framework: health promotion for early detection, timely diagnosis, and comprehensive cancer management, translating global guidance into coordinated local action. Facilitated alongside the WHO Country Office, the initiative is also aligned with Indonesia’s Breast Cancer National Action Plan launched in February 2026.
