“The I Cúpula Multilateral de Cidades da América Latina no Controle do Câncer, co-hosted by IGCC – Instituto de Governança e Controle do Câncer de Governança e Controle do Câncer (IGCC) and C/Can has officially started!
As a C/Can city, Porto Alegre is bringing together city stakeholders, health leaders, and decision-makers across Latin America to drive real, sustainable change in urban cancer care.
Yesterday’s sessions focused heavily on transparently sharing what has worked across C/Can network cities in Latin America:
- Concepción (Chile): Insights on conducting a participatory Needs Assessment that brought together 80%+ of the local oncology ecosystem, demonstrating how real-world evidence can be systematized and translated into priorities for a structured City Programme. This shows how multi-sector governance can become a practical public health tool, identifying implementation gaps and guiding solutions aligned with national plans.
- Rosario (Argentina): Standardising Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards (MDTs) to streamline care pathways, eliminate clinical variabilities, and improve patient experience across fragmented health sectors.
- León (Mexico): Experience in the process of implementing a navigation program for patient navigation for diagnostic confirmation in less than 60 days.
- Arequipa (Peru): Enhancing regional diagnostic workflows and strengthening cross-sector alignment to overcome access barriers.
- Asunción (Paraguay): Digitalising pre-analytical and analytical pathology workflows to strengthen sample traceability, quality, and timely cancer diagnosis.
- Cali (Colombia): Pioneering multisectoral collaboration as an early C/Can city, creating sustainable frameworks that bridge local care gaps.
When cities connect and build solutions grounded in local realities, we move closer to equitable cancer care for everyone.
