SIOP’s SOSIODO Network has a new sponsor

SIOP has been part of the ever-growing global, multidisciplinary, and online knowledge-sharing network SOSIDO since 2015. Many SIOP members appreciate and enjoy the weekly email digest, which provides a summary of activity in their community.

Since SIOP’s membership and community have undergone significant growth over the past years, the team at SOSIDO was unfortunately unable to continue providing this service free of charge.

Recognizing the SOSIDO Network as an important SIOP membership benefit, SIOP is pleased to announce that the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology has kindly agreed to co-sponsor this service for the pediatric oncology community.

About the Princess Máxima Center

When a child is seriously ill with cancer, only one thing comes first: cure. This is why the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology works every day in a groundbreaking and passionate way to improve the survival rate and quality of life of children with cancer, both now and in the longer term. As a research hospital, all children with cancer in the Netherlands are treated there, making it the largest pediatric cancer center in Europe. Over 500 researchers and 900 healthcare professionals collaborate with international hospitals to find new perspectives to increase cure rates and improve quality of life.

The Board of Directors collectively covers the most important leadership expertise and competencies in three areas: managerial, medical, and scientific. The Board members are:
Rob Pieters, CMO (medical)
René Medema, CSO (scientific)
Gita Gallé, COO/CFO (managerial, finance)

This comprehensive leadership ensures that children receive the best care today while taking important steps to improve survival chances for future patients.

Princess Máxima Center and SIOP

Prof. Rob Pieters, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology, has been elected by SIOP members as the SIOP President-Elect. He will begin his term as president at the SIOP 2025 Annual Congress, scheduled for October 20-23, 2025, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. SIOP congratulates Prof. Pieters on his success and looks forward to working closely with him during his presidency after the current president, Dr. Guillermo Chantada, steps down in October 2026. Prof. Pieters has already made significant contributions to the pediatric oncology community, and SIOP anticipates continued passion and enthusiasm during his tenure.

SIOP is also pleased to announce that Prof. Gertjan Kaspers, along with Prof. Rob Pieters, will co-chair the SIOP 2025 Annual Congress Amsterdam Local Organizing Committee. The organization looks forward to the exciting scientific and social event programs they will plan.

Additionally, Prof. Marry van den Heuvel-Eibrink has been elected by SIOP members as the SIOP Scientific Committee Chair-Elect. She will begin her term at the SIOP 2025 Annual Congress. SIOP congratulates Prof. van den Heuvel-Eibrink and looks forward to her contributions in shaping the ever-growing scientific congress program, following the tenure of the current Scientific Committee Chair, Dr. Asim Belgaumi.
