Wafik El-Deiry: Great presentation by Dr. Knudsen on the 3-year anniversary of her leadership of ACS
Wafik El-Deiry recently shared on LinkedIn:
“Great conversations at the American Cancer Society Red White and Blue reception at the ASCO24 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting in Chicago.
I am speaking with ACS CEO Dr. Karen Knudsen and American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Lisa A. Lacasse about the cancer burden in Rhode Island and our efforts to address it at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Lifespan, and Care New England.
Rhode Island is in the top 10 states in cancer incidence rates. The Legorreta Cancer Center is committed to addressing disparities, screening, prevention, understanding why the rates are so high, and providing access to the latest treatments and clinical trials.
Addressing the cancer burden in Rhode Island is a team effort involving the academic institution Brown University, the health systems, the state, and collaborators including colleagues at URI.
Great presentation by Dr. Knudsen on the 3rd anniversary of her spectacular leadership of ACS. She spoke about ACS initiatives for high rates of cancer among African American women including Voices of Black Women, patient support, biomarker testing laws, navigators, Health Equity Ambassadors, Hope Lodges, and supporting research.”
