“The pioneering research of Ching-Hon Pui revolutionized the treatment of childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and saved countless lives around the world. Today, Pui was honored with the AACR-St. Baldrick’s Foundation Award for Outstanding Achievement in Pediatric Cancer Research at the 115th AACR Annual Meeting in San Diego, California.

Pui joined St. Jude in 1977 and has dedicated his clinical and research efforts to advancing our understanding of childhood ALL – the most common type of childhood leukemia – and improving the therapeutic approaches used to treat the disease. When he arrived, the cure rate for ALL was approximately 50%. With Pui’s research at the foundation and the advancements in science and medicine, the survival rate is now over 90%. As co-founder of international collaborative groups dedicated to improving ALL survivorship, he presses on to seek treatment options, minimizing relapse and long-term side effects in survivors. Pui is also the co-leader of the Hematological Malignancies Program; director of St. Jude Global’s China Region; Fahad Nassar Al-Rashid Endowed Chair of Leukemia Research; and American Cancer Society Professor at St. Jude.
