Young Kwang Chae: Thoracic Oncology at ESMO26, Key Advances and Clinical Takeaways

Young Kwang Chae, Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University, shared on X:

“My thoughts from the ESMO26 conference on thoracic oncology:

  • T-cell engagers are changing SCLC – DeLLphi-305’s 58% mortality reduction in 1L maintenance and DeLLphi-304’s mature, approved relapsed benefit.
  • ADCs and rational EGFR/MET combinations are expanding post-resistance options – but watch the fine print: China-only populations, interim OS, and (for PANKU) heavy myelosuppression.
  • Perioperative IO and ctDNA are reshaping early-stage care – NEOTORCH is OS-positive at final analysis; NeoCOAST-2 and MDT-BRIDGE show ctDNA and MDT-adaptive strategies worth testing in phase III.

An outstanding year for thoracic oncology – with the usual reminder: interim OS, single-arm designs, and regional populations temper the headlines.’
