“UT MD Anderson researchers are digging deeper into targeting KRAS, the gut’s role in regeneration after radiation damage and novel antibody-drug conjugates in leukemia patients.
1. ADC eliminates residual cancer cells in many patients with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia
Results from a Phase 2 study, led by Elias Jabbour, found researchers were able to eradicate measurable residual disease in B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients by treating with a novel antibody-drug conjugate.
2. Platform quickly finds and isolates rare, tumor-reactive immune cells
A new platform, developed by UT MD Anderson researchers led by Alexandre Reuben, and Amanda Montoya, quickly finds and isolates rare, tumor-reactive immune cells that are especially good at recognizing and attacking cancer cells. How this could potentially accelerate the creation of personalized treatments.
3. Gene signature in microscopic colorectal cancer metastases may predict recurrence
Researchers identified a six-gene signature in microscopic colorectal cancer liver metastases that may help predict recurrence after treatment. The study was co-led by Dipen Maru, Scott Kopetz, Linghua Wang, together with co-first authors Yang Liu, and Dr. Akshaya Jadhav. The findings suggest these tiny tumor deposits could serve as a tissue-based marker.
4. Gut bacterium combined with short-term fasting helps regeneration after radiation
A preclinical study, co-led by Helen Piwnica-Worms, and Kunal Rai, identified a gut bacterium that, when combined with short-term fasting, helps prepare the small intestine to regenerate after radiation damage. How this could support a new strategy for reducing the side effects of radiation therapy.
5. Virus-specific T cell therapy delivers encouraging results against rare neurological condition
In the largest study of its kind led by Katy Rezvani, a virus-specific T cell therapy achieved a response in more than half of treated patients with a rare and often deadly neurological condition caused by viral infection.
