Sylvester Earns BCRF Award to Develop AI-Powered Breast Cancer Survivorship Platform

“A new Breast Cancer Research Foundation award co-funded by the Dolphins Cancer Challenge is helping Sylvester researchers harness AI to expand personalized support for breast cancer survivors.

Led by Dr. Frank Penedo and the Sylvester Survivorship and Supportive Care Institute, the project will advance My Wellness Support, an AI-powered platform designed to identify unmet needs and provide personalized, evidence-based guidance between clinic visits.

The platform builds on years of Sylvester survivorship research and data collected from more than 34,000 ambulatory oncology patients through the My Wellness Check program.

By combining patient-reported outcomes, clinical information and an oncology-trained AI companion, researchers aim to identify concerns earlier and connect survivors with the right resources and care when they need them.

‘Our vision is to leverage advances in artificial intelligence to enhance and expand the delivery of evidence-based, personalized support that helps survivors manage symptoms, improve quality of life and stay connected to their care team,’ said Dr. Penedo.

Ultimately, the research could help create a scalable model for extending personalized supportive care beyond the clinic.
