Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) , shared on X:
“The FDA has granted accelerated approval to the immunotherapy Jemperli (dostarlimab) for adults with stage II or III rectal cancer whose tumors are mismatch repair-deficient (MMRd) or microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H).
The approach, developed at MSK by gastrointestinal medical oncologists Andrea Cercek and Luis Diaz Jr., uses immunotherapy alone to harness the body’s immune system to fight cancer.
This approach allows some patients to avoid standard treatment for rectal cancer, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, which can have life-altering effects on bowel and urinary function as well as fertility.
Learn more about the FDA approval and the treatment approach.”
