“Changes after immunotherapy starts may be more informative than a sample taken before treatment begins.
New research published in Cancer Cell looked at how the tumour immune environment changes during checkpoint inhibitor treatment.
The study analysed 441 samples from 241 people across 10 cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer.
Around 40% of tumours changed from one immune state to another during treatment. These changes predicted response better than the tumour’s immune state at the start.
The findings point to the potential value of tracking these changes during treatment.”
