“Strengthening Health System Capacity and Patient Support for Cancer Care in Nyeri County
Last week, KENCO handed over cancer screening equipment and patient support commodities to Nyeri County Referral Hospital under the Women Awake – Strengthening Early Detection and Care for Women’s Cancers in Kenya project, implemented in partnership with AFRON Oncologia per l’Africa ETS, with support from the Fondazione Prosolidar Foundation.
The equipment, including a thermal coagulation machine, examination couches and lamps, headgear torches, high-level screening stools and Pap smear kits, will strengthen the hospital’s capacity to provide cancer screening and related services, including through community outreaches.
Alongside these service-delivery investments, the project handed over patient support commodities, including breast prostheses, reusable stoma bags, wound-care kits, lymphedema sleeves, and wigs. These will be distributed free of charge to vulnerable cancer patients and survivors based on identified need.
This handover represents an investment in two complementary priorities: strengthening the capacity of health facilities to deliver cancer services and addressing the practical needs of people affected by cancer. Improving access to screening must go hand in hand with ensuring that patients and survivors receive appropriate support throughout their care journey.
We thank AFRON Oncologia per l’Africa ETS, the Fondazione Prosolidar Foundation, and the County Government Of Nyeri health team for their collaboration and commitment to improving cancer care.”
