“Fatma Rabea, Prof. Ahmad Abou Tayoun, and a collection of talented colleagues report on the first 100 patients having rWGS in the pediatric ICU.
This represented implementation across the city-state of Dubai and found 54% diagnostic yield, multiple findings in 12% (the 1 cause dogma isn’t always correct!), and more than half had changes in clinical management (I argue that 100% of patients had clinically relevant benefit, as it ruled-in OR ruled-out, thereby refining next steps. TAT 3.4 days (beautiful, real-world achievement)).
This was a ‘citywide implementation’ in a metro area population of ~4.6 million. That means NYC, LA, Chicago land, DFW, Houston, Washington DC, Miami, Phillypins, Atlanta, Phoenix, Boston, Bay Area metro areas could do this and have no excuses! I know that there are pockets of pediatric ICU genomics excellence in some of these places, but this paper was citywide!”
