Pleased to share our new systematic review and meta-analysis comparing single-stapled (SSA) versus double-stapled (DSA) colorectal anastomosis after anterior resection.
13 comparative studies | 2,537 patients
- Anastomotic leak: RR 0.77 (95% CI 0.46-1.31)
- Major complications: RR 0.67 (95% CI 0.37-1.20)
- No relevant difference in major LARS
Overall, SSA appears to be a safe and technically appealing alternative to conventional DSA, although current evidence does not demonstrate superiority of either technique.
Further high-quality, multicentre randomised trials are needed to define whether avoiding crossing staple lines translates into meaningful clinical benefit.”
