Isabella Tavares: Racial and Socioeconomic Disparity in Breast Cancer Mortality
Isabella Tavares, Clinical oncologist and Clinical Research Observer at UZ Leuven and at Georgetown University, shared an article on LinkedIn:
“Our research group has just published an important article in the journal Cancers (MDPI), titled:
“Racial and Socioeconomic Disparity in Breast Cancer Mortality: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis”
This study aimed to investigate the impact of racial and socioeconomic disparities on breast cancer mortality. Through a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis, we found that women from minority and low-income backgrounds often face significant barriers to early diagnosis and treatment—ultimately resulting in worse clinical outcomes.
Our findings highlight the urgent need for public health policies that promote early detection, equitable treatment, and targeted interventions to reduce inequalities in cancer outcomes for vulnerable populations.
Congratulations to all co-authors and institutions involved for this meaningful contribution to science and health equity!
