Adam B. Weiner, Urologic Oncologist at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, shared on X:
“Global epidemiology, risk factors, and prevention of prostate cancer.
Happy to share our new review in European Urology with Giorgio Gandaglia.
PCa is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in 123 of 185 countries. 1.55M new cases and 420K deaths in 2024.
By 2050, cases are projected to rise 86% to 2.88M, with the steepest increase in Africa (+156%).
- Family history, germline variants, polygenic risk, and ancestry are the strongest risk factors.
- No supplement has been shown to prevent PCa.
- Smoking and obesity track with worse mortality.
- Activity and a plant-forward diet with lower progression.
- Mortality gaps by ancestry narrow in equal-access systems.”
