Aadil Najeed։ SARON Trial Shows Improved PFS and Local Disease Control With Consolidation Radiotherapy in NSCLC

Aadil Najeed, Senior Resident at Government Medical College Srinagar, shared on LinkedIn:

“At ESMO26, the primary results of the randomized phase II SARON trial addressed this question directly, evaluating first-line systemic anti-cancer therapy with or without consolidation radiotherapy in action-genomic alteration-negative patients (n=140).

Key findings:

  • Progression-Free Survival: A notable extension favoring consolidation radiotherapy, with a median PFS of 13.9 months versus 8.9 months (HR 0.64 [0.43–0.95]; p=0.03).
  • Local Disease Control: Consolidative radiation substantially lowered the 12-month local failure rate to 13.0%, compared with 39.5% in the systemic-therapy-only arm (p<0.01).
  • Overall Survival: Despite the improved progression interval and locoregional control, median OS was comparable between cohorts at 31.0 months versus 28.0 months (HR 0.99 [0.63–1.55]; p=0.95).
  • Tolerability: Severe toxicities were balanced, with grade 3 or higher adverse events reported at 28.6% across both arms.”
