Right now, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), together with Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH), is hosting the 7th CUHK Sarcoma Masterclass, a one-day event dedicated to sharing the latest advances and practical experience in sarcoma care. As a quaternary referral centre in Hong Kong with a well-established Adult Sarcoma Multidisciplinary Tumour Board since 2012, CUHK/PWH has built a reputation for fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in sarcoma diagnosis, treatment, research, and education.
A Day of Insight: Agenda Highlights
The masterclass combines didactic lectures, interactive workshops, breakout sessions, and multidisciplinary case discussions. The programme is designed to both showcase the newest diagnostic tools and treatments in sarcoma care and provide hands-on, immersive learning.
Some of the topics being explored today include:
- Next Generation Sequencing and Next Generation Immunohistochemistry in Sarcoma Diagnostics: Kicking off the day at 09:15 HKT, Dr. David J. Papke of Harvard Medical School discusses when to use NGS, when immunohistochemical surrogates suffice, and strategies for institutional decision-making.
- Interventional Radiology in Sarcomas
- Artificial Intelligence and Digital Pathology in Diagnosis and Prognostication of Sarcomas
- MDT Spotlight: Immersive Technology & Mixed Reality in Orthopaedic Oncology, addressing clinical experience and challenges in implementing mixed reality tools in public hospital settings.
- Experiences in Building Sarcoma Collaborations and Networks in China and Beyond
- Updates in Paediatric Sarcomas for the Non-Paediatric Oncologist
- Application of Patient-Reported Outcomes to Inform Sarcoma Care
- Interactive Multidisciplinary Case Discussions, where participants dive into real cases and engage with specialists across disciplines to share and debate best practices.
There are also breakout and practical demonstration sessions, including mixed reality demonstrations and hands-on practice, a tour of CUHKMC Smart Hospital, RT planning demonstrations, and radiology procedures such as USG-guided biopsy.

Why This Masterclass Matters
Sarcomas are notoriously heterogeneous and challenging, both in diagnosis and treatment. With the rise of targeted therapies, genetic testing, immunohistochemistry, AI-based prognostics, and innovations in imaging and surgical technology, there is much to integrate and translate into practice.
This masterclass offers attendees:
- A chance to see the leading edge of diagnostic pathways, imaging, and technology implementation.
- Practice-oriented breakout sessions to experience tools such as mixed reality, radiology interventions, and guided biopsies.
- Multidisciplinary case discussions that reflect real life, where different specialists must collaborate.
- Networking opportunities across institutions, countries, and disciplines in the Asia-Pacific region.
