Lucio N Gordan: Community oncologists need policymaker support to stay independent
Lucio N Gordan, President and Managing Physician at Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute, shared a post by Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute on LinkedIn, adding:
“It is an understatement to mention we live in turbulent times. Access to best and affordable cancer care is a mission that we hold very close to our hearts and minds at FCS. In this op-ed, I describe challenges, concerns and opportunities to enhance our reach and quality as community oncology professionals.
The asymmetric and unfair forces posed by PBM’s, the misuse of 340B program and lack of site parity remain a tremendous challenge to our existence. Look no further beyond community oncology as a model of efficiency, access to patients at home and responsible cost management as compared to others.
This is not that hard to understand and act on. Thanks for reading this article.”
Quoting Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute‘s post:
“Cancer care in the U.S. is at a critical inflection point.
As costs rise and reimbursement rates decline, many independent oncology practices are being forced to sell or close – leaving patients with fewer options, higher costs, and reduced access to care close to home.
In an opinion article on The Center Square recently authored by FCS President and Managing Physician Lucio N Gordan, he explores how we can preserve and strengthen community-based cancer care by leveling the playing field, supporting independent practices, and keeping the focus where it belongs: on the patient.
