Esophageal Cancer and Proton Radiation Therapy: Aren Karapetyan Highlights Promising Results from New Study
Aren Karapetyan, Oncology Resident at Yerevan State Medical University named after Mkhitar Heratsi, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“New research by Frederiks et al. (2025) in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics shows promising results for esophageal cancer patients!
Proton radiation therapy (PRT) significantly reduces pneumonia incidence (12% vs 32% with photon RT) after neoadjuvant chemoradiation and surgery. This reduction is linked to lower mean doses and less low-dose irradiation to the lungs and heart.”
Title: Proton Radiotherapy Significantly Reduces Pneumonia in Patients With Esophageal Cancer
