Olubukola Ayodele: Fifth Clinical Trials Round Table by Make 2nds Count
Olubukola Ayodele, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, shared a post by Make 2nds Count on LinkedIn:
“It was truly heartwarming to host the fifth Clinical Trials Round Table organized by Make 2nds Count yesterday in Leicester.
The team at Make 2nds Count has been connecting with healthcare professionals across the UK to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by patients with secondary breast cancer when it comes to clinical trials.
During our discussions, we shared one of the meaningful steps we’ve taken to enhance our services was the creation of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) specifically focused on metastatic breast cancer. This initiative ensures that every patient has an equal opportunity to explore clinical trial options. It is concerning to learn from a report by Make 2nds Count that only 23% of oncologists currently offer clinical trials to their patients.
Looking ahead, Make 2nds Count will be releasing a report with their findings next year, and we sincerely hope that the heartfelt conversations from yesterday will drive important changes in healthcare. Our mission is to create a fairer and more compassionate journey for all patients while equipping clinicians with the resources they need to support them effectively.
No one should have to navigate the complexities of clinical trials without support, and access should never be determined by where someone lives.
Thank you to Melanie Tolson and Corinne McDougall for all their hard work and dedication!”
Quoting Make 2nds Count‘s post:
“Our fifth Clinical Trials Round Table took place yesterday in Leicester – thank you to everyone that came!
We’ve been speaking with health care professionals across the UK to try to understand the issues and barriers around secondary breast cancer patient clinical trials as we want them to be accessible to everyone who has the disease.
We’ll be publishing a report with our findings early next year – including voices from our community – which we hope can lead further discussions and implement changes in healthcare to make clinical trials more of a topic of conversation with secondary breast cancer clinicians and care teams.”
