OncoDaily Grand Rounds at ESMO 2026: Sarcoma Edition

OncoDaily Grand Rounds at ESMO 2026: Sarcoma Edition

During ESMO 2026 in Madrid, OncoDaily will bring together leading sarcoma experts for OncoDaily Grand Rounds at ESMO 2026: Sarcoma Edition. The session will connect expert perspectives with emerging evidence, examining developments in diagnosis, treatment, and multidisciplinary care and their potential implications for patients.

With numerous subtypes and complex treatment decisions, sarcoma care raises questions that span diagnosis, molecular classification, clinical research, and multidisciplinary management.Building on the scientific exchange at ASCO 2026 in Chicago, the Madrid session will continue the conversation around emerging evidence and its relevance to clinical practice.

The program will bring together specialists to examine developments shaping the field, consider how new findings may inform treatment strategies, and exchange perspectives on the challenges that remain in sarcoma care.

Registration is now open for Sarcoma Grand Rounds at ESMO 2026!

Sarcoma: Why Dedicated Scientific Discussion Matters

Sarcomas are a rare and diverse group of cancers whose biological characteristics, clinical behavior, and treatment needs can differ considerably. Sarcomas encompass a broad range of malignancies arising in connective tissues, including bone, muscle, fat, blood vessels, and nerves.

These diseases can develop in different parts of the body and vary considerably in their biological characteristics, clinical behavior, and response to treatment. Sarcomas also affect patients across different stages of life. This diversity makes accurate diagnosis and treatment planning specific to each subtype essential.

Sarcomas account for approximately 1% of adult cancers but around 15% of pediatric cancers. With more than 70 subtypes, these malignancies present considerable diagnostic and treatment complexity. The reported five-year survival rate for localized soft-tissue sarcoma is approximately 81%, although outcomes vary substantially by subtype and stage. These figures underscore the importance of dedicated attention to sarcoma awareness, specialist care, and research.

Talking about sarcoma is important because its rarity and varied presentation can make recognition difficult. Differences in tumor histology and clinical presentation add further complexity, potentially contributing to late diagnosis, frustration, and reduced health-related quality of life. These concerns make professional education and public awareness relevant parts of the wider sarcoma discussion.

Scientific Leadership and Faculty

The program is co-chaired by Robin Jones and Javier Martín-Broto.

Professor Robin Jones is a medical oncologist specialising in the treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcomas and Head of the Sarcoma Unit at The Royal Marsden. He has experience in conducting Phase I, II, and III trials, as well as translational studies in sarcomas.

He served as Head of the Sarcoma Program at the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. His primary research interest focuses on clinical trials and translational research in sarcomas.

Dr. Javier Martín-Broto was a founding member of the Spanish Group for Research on Sarcomas (GEIS) in 1994 and served on its executive committee from 1994 to 2022, including as GEIS Chairman from 2010 to 2018.

Currently, he coordinates clinical sarcoma care and translational research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, USA, and leads the Sarcoma Latin-American & European Sarcoma Network (SELNET) consortium. Additionally, he designs and runs several national and international clinical trials for sarcoma patients and has authored or co-authored over 400 publications on sarcoma.

Antoine Italiano and Emanuela Palmerini will join Robin Jones and Javier Martín-Broto as faculty members.

Emanuela Palmerini, Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Miami and a member of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Sarcoma and Phase I Programs. She has more than two decades of experience, with expertise in bone and soft-tissue sarcomas, pediatric and adolescent/young adult care, clinical trials, and immunotherapy.

Antoine Italiano, Senior Consultant in the Sarcoma Team within Gustave Roussy’s Drug Development Department and a Clinical Researcher at IHU PRISM. His work focuses on sarcoma, precision medicine, targeted therapies, early-phase clinical trials, and translational research.

Grand Rounds

Building on the Sarcoma Grand Rounds at ASCO 2026

Sarcoma Grand Rounds at ASCO 2026 brought together sarcoma specialists and attendees for a focused discussion of emerging treatment approaches. Co-chaired by Sandra D’Angelo and Herbert Loong, the program included contributions from Robin Jones and Javier Martín-Broto, covering targeted therapies, biomarker testing, chemotherapy-immunotherapy combinations, T-cell receptor therapies, and antibody-drug conjugates.

Herbert Loong, Advisor at Greater Bay Area International Clinical Trial Institute and Steering Committee Member at Lung Cancer Policy Network, reflected on the event:

“My thanks to OncoDaily for organising and choosing sarcomas as the topic for the first OncoDaily Grand Rounds on the sidelines of ASCO26 in Chicago this year.”

Participant reflections highlighted the opportunity to exchange knowledge and give sarcoma dedicated attention within the broader oncology meeting. The reported feedback points to the program’s value as a forum for specialist discussion and community engagement. The ESMO 2026 Sarcoma Edition will build on this exchange, continuing the conversation around emerging evidence and its relevance to sarcoma care.

Registration is now open for Sarcoma Grand Rounds at ESMO 2026.

Join leading sarcoma experts for an engaging discussion on the latest advances in sarcoma diagnosis, treatment, and multidisciplinary care. The session will provide valuable clinical insights, expert perspectives, and an opportunity to exchange knowledge with colleagues. It is a great opportunity to connect with the sarcoma community during ESMO 2026. The event is designed for everyone who is interested in sarcoma care.
