The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) has announced its upcoming Summit for Clinical Cancer Research, scheduled for 23–24 March 2027 in Brussels, Belgium.
The announcement was made on Clinical Trials Day, 20 May 2026, recognising the researchers, clinicians, patients, and partners whose work continues to advance cancer research worldwide.
Positioned as a new flagship EORTC event, the Summit aims to create a high-level forum for discussing how clinical evidence is generated, evaluated, and translated into better cancer care.
EORTC Summit 2027
A New Meeting Point for Clinical Cancer Research
The EORTC Summit will bring together experts from across the cancer research ecosystem to explore some of the field’s most consequential topics.
The programme will address Artificial Intelligence, innovative trial methodologies, patient-centred research, quality-of-life assessment, and evolving global policy and regulatory frameworks.
Rather than focusing only on treatment results, the Summit will place attention on the processes behind clinical evidence generation — from trial design and methodology to patient involvement and regulatory development.
Bringing Every Stakeholder Into the Conversation
The event will be designed as a multistakeholder platform, bringing together researchers, clinicians, patient advocates, industry representatives, Contract Research Organisation experts, funders, and regulators.
EORTC stated that the Summit is intended to fill an important gap by creating one pragmatic meeting point for stakeholders working across disciplines and sectors in clinical cancer research.
The format will encourage dialogue between groups that often contribute to different stages of the research process, while keeping patient outcomes and the future of evidence-based care at the centre of discussion.
Early-Career Investigators Take Centre Stage
A key focus of the Summit will be the next generation of cancer researchers.
The event will launch the EORTC 2027 Early-Career Investigator Programme, involving 40 selected Early-Career Investigator members. Alongside scientific discussions, the Summit will provide networking opportunities and space for emerging voices to contribute to the future direction of clinical cancer research.
The initiative reflects EORTC’s continued investment in young investigators and in building a sustainable research community capable of addressing future challenges in oncology.
“Changing Practice, Improving Lives”
The Summit will be co-chaired by Prof. Benjamin Besse, EORTC President-Elect, and Dr. Elena Garralda, with Dr. Jens Lehmann, ECI Chair, also contributing to the event’s message for the scientific community.
Through the new Summit, EORTC aims to connect the people and disciplines shaping modern cancer trials, while creating momentum for more collaborative, patient-centred, and practice-changing research.
