Partha Basu’s New Paper on the Potential of Handheld Ultrasound by Trained Nonradiologists

Partha Basu, Head of the Early Detection, Prevention and Infections Branch at International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), shared on LinkedIn:

“Happy to share our second article on breast cancer research at International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) published in the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Our study demonstrates that handheld ultrasound performed by trained nonradiologist clinicians can substantially improve the efficiency of breast cancer early detection pathways, reducing unnecessary referrals while maintaining high sensitivity for cancer detection.

This approach has significant potential for strengthening breast cancer services in low- and middle-income countries especially with support from artificial intelligence.”
