Jonathan Villena: LUNGevity Foundation New Publication on Lymph Nodes in Surgically Resectable Lung Cancer
Jonathan Villena, Assistant Professor in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent paper by Dan Jones published on Seminars in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery:
“LUNGevity Foundation new publication on lymph nodes in surgically resectable lung cancer.”
Title: The Evolving Role of Lymph Node Resection in the Era of Immunotherapy for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Later LUNGevity Foundation shared Jonathan Villena’s post on LinkedIn:
“As lung cancer screening becomes more common, more people are diagnosed with lung cancer in the earlier stages – when it can be removed through surgery.
For these patients, the strategy of lymph node dissection continues to be an important topic. Research has shown that tumor cells do not always take a ‘stepwise’ approach – spreading first to the regional lymph nodes and then to distant organs. Sometimes they can spread near and far simultaneously. This raises questions about how to optimize lymph node dissections to offer patients the best treatment possible.
In this review paper, Dr. Villena-Vargas discusses the complex relationships between tumor biology, immunotherapy, and lymph node mangement in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
LUNGevity is proud to support Dr. Villena-Vargas in his work to gain key insights which shed light on these important aspects of lung cancer biology and treatment.
