Giuseppe Troisi: Powerful Way to Mark 2025 International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Giuseppe Troisi, Program Manager at St Jude Global Hub for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“What a powerful way to mark International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month!
Just last week, I returned from a joint St. Jude/WHO mission to Pakistan to assess the country’s readiness to implement the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines.
Over an intense journey that took us from Islamabad to Karachi, Lahore, and Multan – with stops at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), The Indus Hospital, Children’s Hospital Lahore, Children’s Hospital Multan, and the Federal Directorate of Immunization’s central warehouse – we witnessed firsthand both the challenges and the extraordinary commitment of Pakistan’s pediatric oncology community.
Despite limited resources, facilities in Pakistan manage to provide children with state-of-the-art treatment. It’s an inspiring example, and a reminder that high-income countries can learn much about efficiency and innovation in care delivery.
Above all, this mission was about one thing: ensuring that every child with cancer in Pakistan has seamless access to high-quality chemotherapy – no matter where they live or their socioeconomic background.
This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from colleagues across WHO’s three levels and the dedication of federal and provincial authorities.
Exhausting? Yes.
Inspiring? Absolutely.
A better way to start my journey with St. Jude Global? I couldn’t imagine one.”
