White Paper on crucial need for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in cancer care – Youth Cancer Europe
Youth Cancer Europe shared on LinkedIn:
“We’re excited to share the journey behind our ‘Recommendations for EDI Cancer Care in Europe’ White Paper.
This project brought together diverse voices and thorough research to highlight the crucial need for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in cancer care.
Check our Policy Paper here.
We started with a comprehensive literature review, analysing 1,519 articles to identify the most relevant 45 for our White Paper.
Our focus included childhood, adolescents, young adults, race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality.
An online survey allowed 128 respondents with lived cancer experiences from 25 countries to share their stories, highlighting significant gaps and needs in cancer care.
Another survey involved 77 healthcare professionals, showing their recognition of EDI’s importance and their call for more education and engagement.
In Romania, we hosted a multi-stakeholder workshop with 37 participants from 17 countries, including patient advocates, researchers, healthcare providers, and policymakers.
We discussed the importance of inclusive language, real-world applications, and involving individuals with lived experiences in our content creation.
We’re committed to making cancer care more equitable, diverse, and inclusive for everyone. Stay tuned as we share more insights and tools from our White Paper and Toolkit.”
