Aakash Desai: Insights into mNSCLC Management through a Global Clinician Survey
Aakash Desai, Assistant Professor at O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In Clinical Lung Cancer, Arthi Sridhar, Eric Singhi, H. Jack West provide Insights into mNSCLC Management through a Global Clinician Survey
Conducted between July and August 2023, they engaged 127 healthcare professionals from prominent academic systems, primarily within the US.
Findings show a strong preference for NGS in non-squamous mNSCLC (93%), though its use in squamous cell types is less frequent (54%). Challenges such as insufficient tissue samples, infrastructural limitations, and reimbursement issues are notable obstacles.
With 72% of clinicians awaiting NGS results before initiating treatment, the importance of timely and accurate testing is clear. However, less than half of the respondents routinely refer mNSCLC patients for clinical trials, underscoring a gap in harnessing cutting-edge therapies from the outset.
As we move forward, it’s imperative to address these barriers to ensure every patient with mNSCLC can benefit from the most informed, effective treatment strategies.
