Safa Majeed: Our systematic review of genomic secondary findings policy
Unity Health Toronto shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In genetic testing, variants can be found incidentally, outside the original purpose of testing. These findings are called secondary findings (SFs) and they can have a significant impact on patient health.
Genomic researchers found there’s inconsistent guidance on using SFs in a recent study published in the American Journal of Human Genetics led by MD-PhD candidate, Safa Majeed, Dr. David Malkin, and Dr. Yvonne Bombard at St. Michael’s Hospital, The Hospital for Sick Children and the University of Toronto. This paper can guide clinical decisions for SFs but also identifies key policy gaps in clinical practice.
Read the study.”
Safa Majeed, MD/PhD student at the University of Toronto shared the post by Unity Health Toronto, adding:
“Our systematic review of genomic secondary findings policy is out in the American Journal of Human Genetics! So grateful to have brought this work to publication alongside my amazing colleagues and under the supervision of Dr. Yvonne Bombard and Dr. David Malkin.”
Yvonne Bombard, Canada Research Chair at Unity Health Toronto, shared the post by Unity Health Toronto, adding:
“Kudos Safa Majeed for leading this comprehensive international review of policy guiding Secondary Findings in practice with David Malkin. A seminal resource for the genomics community.”
