Nirmala Bhoo-Pathy: 15 years of breast cancer trends among women in a multiethnic, middle-income Asian setting

Nirmala Bhoo-Pathy shared on LinkedIn:

“We are thrilled to announce our latest publication in JCO Global Oncology, where we dive into 15 years of breast cancer trends among women in a multiethnic, middle-income Asian setting.

Key Findings: Significant improvements in survival rates especially for HER2-positive and advanced-stage cancers highlight the positive impact of enhanced cancer control efforts and treatment advancements. Despite this progress, late stage diagnoses and disparities in access to lifesaving therapies remain a challenge.

Policy Implications: Our study provides a thorough evaluation of current oncology care quality initiatives, validating the ongoing national cancer control efforts and advancements in treatment modalities. Policymakers can leverage these insights to enhance breast cancer downstaging efforts and drug policies, improving access to essential therapies for all.

Global Relevance: As one of the few studies offering detailed insights into the shifting breast cancer landscape in a resource-limited setting, our research serves as a model for other LMICs to track progress in their cancer control efforts.”
