Tanja Obradovic, Therapeutic Strategy Lead of Oncology at Novotech, Senior Advisor of Oncology Drug Development at HopeAI, shared on LinkedIn:
“What are key messages from ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology ESMO 2026? After outstanding meeting this year where we got reports from many pivotal trials and novel drug modalities at various stages of development few points stand out:
1. Oncology development is shifting even further from treating broad metastatic populations to treating biomarker and disease defined populations, moving into earlier cancer stages of peri- and post-operative settings with opening possibility for increased patient benefit and identifying novel molecular methods of patient selection.
2. Trials that can identify high-risk patients through biomarkers or ctDNA and intervene before relapse are likely to have the greatest probability of success and the largest commercial opportunity.
3. Early global development starting from the phase I is becoming paramount as one country or one geographical region large Phase III trials even when positive still leave unanswered questions on safety and efficacy applicability across global oncology patient population and practice.
Truly outstanding meeting toward global oncology community, working together for better patient care.”
