
Curebound Targeted Grants 2025: $500K for Translational Cancer Research with Clinical Impact
Curebound is now accepting Letters of Intent for its 2025 Targeted Grants, offering up to $500,000 over two years to fund innovative, collaborative oncology research focused on clinical translation. These grants are designed to bridge the gap between lab discoveries and patient benefit by supporting preclinical and clinical research that addresses unmet needs and improves patient outcomes.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must:

Hold an MD, PhD, or equivalent and be an independent investigator

Be based at one of six San Diego-based institutions:

UC San Diego (including Moores Cancer Center and UCSD Health)

Salk Institute
-
Sanford Burnham Prebys
-
Rady Children’s Hospital
-
La Jolla Institute for Immunology
-
Scripps Research
-
-
Include an interdisciplinary Partner PI (not from their own department or division)

Inter-institutional collaborations are encouraged but not required
Funding at a glance:

Up to 500,000 USD total over 2 years
-
Max 300,000 USD in Year 1

Budget includes direct + indirect costs (indirect costs capped at 30% of total)

Funds may support PI salary (NIH cap), research staff, supplies, and reagents
-
Travel, tuition, and unrelated infrastructure costs are not allowed
Research focus:
Grants support projects with strong translational potential, including:

Novel or repurposed therapeutics

Diagnostic, preventative, or therapeutic strategies
-
Interventions for underserved populations
-
Projects likely to lead to new clinical trials, changes in guidelines, or regulatory filings
