Breast Cancer Canada and AstraZeneca Canada Advancing Progress in Survivorship Award 2026

Breast Cancer Canada, in partnership with AstraZeneca Canada, is offering two matched research awards for Canadian-led projects addressing gaps in survivorship care following primary treatment for early- or advanced-stage breast cancer. The program supports innovative surveillance diagnostics, therapeutic interventions, and care-delivery models that improve transitions between community and specialty services.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The principal investigator must hold an academic position at a Canadian university, hospital, or healthcare centre.
  • The project and associated data discovery must be conducted and maintained in Canada.
  • The project must be led by a clinician or translational researcher.
  • The research team must include at least one clinical expert in breast cancer and one breast cancer patient advocate or local breast cancer advocacy group.
  • Therapeutic intervention and resource-model applications must have a clinician-scientist lead.
  • Diagnostic applications must be co-led by a translational research scientist and a clinician scientist.
  • Proposals should include a planned clinical outcomes analysis, a three-year impact plan, a budget, and the use of AI technologies where applicable.

Funding Details:

  • Two research grants of CAD 100,000 each are available.
  • An initial payment of CAD 50,000 will be issued on December 31, 2026.
  • The remaining CAD 50,000 will be issued on June 30, 2027, following submission and Breast Cancer Canada’s approval of a brief project progress report.
  • Institutional or university overhead costs are not permitted.

Deadline:

  • Letter of Intent deadline: July 31, 2026.
  • Notice of invitation for eligible applicants: August 5, 2026.
  • Invited full proposal deadline: September 11, 2026.
  • Notice of decision: October 14, 2026.
