Rising Tide/LUNGevity Award for Improving the Early Detection of Lung Cancer through biomarkers and imaging
The Rising Tide Foundation for Clinical Cancer Research and the LUNGevity Foundation have announced a joint $1,000,000 grant opportunity to support clinical trials and validation studies aimed at significantly improving the early detection of lung cancer through the use of novel biomarkers, imaging technologies, or monitoring algorithms.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must:
-
Hold a doctoral degree and a faculty appointment (or equivalent) at an academic or research institution
-
Be an independent, self-directed investigator with institutional support
-
Have completed a postdoctoral training fellowship
-
Not currently hold another concurrent award from RTFCCR or LUNGevity
-
Collaborations and international teams are highly encouraged

-
Max 25% of budget for investigator salary/fringe benefits
-
Drug costs and investigator travel are not funded
-
Projects must include a fundraising plan for any additional operational costs
Research focus:
This RFA supports clinical research and validation studies (not early-stage biomarker discovery) that aim to:
-
Improve stratification criteria for defining high-risk lung cancer populations
-
Validate new early detection tests that could complement or replace LDCT screening
-
Develop non-invasive risk stratification tools for indeterminate pulmonary nodules (IPNs)
Projects must involve patient partners from the study’s conception to post-project dissemination, using a structured Patient Partner Involvement Plan.
Key deadlines:
